Introduction

One device

If you have one device (Lumibox or T2), you only have to connect it to the Internet. You can use different ways:

Multiple setup

However, if you need to connect more devices together for multiple setup with synchronized playback, the situation is more difficult. You need to connect all devices to the Internet and do sychronization among them.

  • Synchronization works only through the ethernet cable (you cannot synchronize devices together by WiFi or GSM).
  • But you need the Internet too. You can use the Internet from ethernet cable but there exists another solution too.
  • You have to keep our recommended setup (use proper settings, adequate network elements) otherwise the Internet connection or synchronization may not work.
  • Finally you have to configure properly   master-slave settings (see below).

Difference between Lumibox and T2

T2 and Lumibox behaves a little bit differently - to be described later on. Be careful which device you need to network together.

Internet firewall

  • Your devices need to a communicate with our server with the cloud service Lumiverse.
  • If you login to the Lumiverse and select your device, you can go to the Settings menu and then go to the Network item. You will see how your firewall has to be configured:

This is only an example. Your settings will be different - go to the Lumiverse app of your device.
  • If you doesn't have access to the Lumiverse yet, you have to open ports 10020, 80 and 443 (all TCP) for all LUMITRIX devices and for all controll devices (phone, etc.). Your device has to have opened one UDP port for VPN communication with our server too, but this port is different for each customer.
  • Also open UDP port 123 for network time synchronization (NTP).
  • If you have more then one device, devices use for video synchronization UDP broadcast (in local LAN) on port 50123.

Multiple setup networking

This chapter is split to two parts which describe how do network with T2 or Lumiboxes (or combination of Lumiboxes and T2s).

But first we look at all network elements which might be necessary.

Network elements

Ethernet cables

  1. A cable to directly connect two T2s: It is usefull when you need to synchronize two T2s. The ethernet cable should have NEUTRIK robust connector carrier on both ends. Use shielded LAN (FTP, STP, S/FTP) cables CAT 5 or CAT 6 with RJ-45 connectors.
  2. A cable to connect T2 to a router or a switch: The lan cable has to have NEUTRIK robust connector carrier on one end, second end is ordinary RJ-45 connector.
  3. A cable to connect Lumibox to a router or a switch: The common ethernet cable with RJ-45 connectors.

Router

  • We recommend the router Mikrotik RouterBOARD RB952Ui-5ac2nD. You have to configure the router properly - here's the manual!
  • The router can be configured as a switch too (see our manual for the router), but it is better to use a normal switch, instead.
  • If you want to use another router, please read manual how to configure an ordinary router. We don't recommend it - no guarantee applies.
  • The router is very important when you synchronize Lumiboxes together, but it can be useful for T2 synchronization too.
  • The router has limited number of ports (4 or 5), but the router can be extended by a switch.
  • You can plug a modem to the router for GSM connectivity or for backup Internet connectivity from ethernet.

Switch

  • You can use any a 100 mbit or faster switch. We recommend the Cisco SG110D-08 - from the Amazon for example - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Cisco+SG110D-08
  • If you have only a router, you can configure it as a switch, but a physical switch is better choice.
  • A switch can be very useful when you synchronize T2s. If you work with Lumiboxes, a switch is useful only in combination with a router - you can extend number of ports of a router (if you don't know how, please read a manual for a router).

Modem

The router can be connected to GSM (LTE) network. But then you need a modem - see how to buy GSM modem.

T2s

Recommended configurations

  1. All devices are connected to the Internet by GSM and synchronized through a cable:
    • If you have only two devices, you can connect them together through an  ethernet cable . Both devices has to be connected to the Internet through a GSM (SIM).
    • If you have more than two devices, you can connect it by a switch.
  2. If you have the Internet from an ethernet (LAN) cable, you can connect it to a router with other devices. Please read our manual how to configure your router.

All possible configurations

"Green ✔" is a preferred variant, "yellow ✔" is a possible variant, "red ✖" is a impossible variant, "—" doesn't make sense.

NET: not connected

It is useless, the Lumiverse doesn't work without the Internet - but synchronization will work in all ✔ variants.

NET: GSM

NET: LAN (ethernet)

  • The internet is connected to a router - preferred variant. Please read our manual how to configure your router.
  • The internet is connected to a switch - it only extends an existing network without a network isolation. Synchronization packets will overwhelm the whole network. You can use only one master in the whole network. A network should be formed with DHCP and NAT. It isn't recommended variant.

NET: LAN + GSM

The primary connection to the Internet is an ethernet. But if an ethernet is down, a router will connect to GSM (failover). The only variant is to use a router with a GSM modem. Please read our manual how to configure your router.

NET: WiFi

T2 isn't able to connect to a WiFi network. But you can use a router and connect it to a WiFi network. But the recommended router doesn't have external antennas, hence a signal can be weak. It isn't recommended variant. Please read our manual how to configure your router.

Lumiboxes or mix with T2s

If you need to connect Lumibox with T2, you have to use network rules for Lumiboxes.

Recommended configuration

If you are connected to the Internet from an ethernet cable, you can connect it to a router with other devices. Please read our manual how to configure your router.

Master / slave settings

If you have synchronized your devices and connected them to the Internet, now proceed to configuring master/slave settings:

  • The master is device which transmits synchronization packets - it controls synchronization. There can only be one master in the whole network. If you need more multiple setups, you need to separate more networks (you can use more routers than one).
  • Slaves are other devices which receive synchronization packets.

How to set-up master:

  1. Connect all devices to their network and turn them on.
  2. Select one device as a master. If you plan to use audio, the master should be a source of audio output. You can use slaves as audio output too, but there will be better quality sound from the master.
  3. Connect to the WebUI of the master device. You can use direct WiFi or VPN. For more info read a manual http://lumitrix.eu/outdoor/support or http://lumitrix.eu/indoor/support
  4. Go to Settings tab in the WebUI, then click on Advanced and finally click to Set as Master. All other devices in network will be slaves now.
  5. Now you can use network synchronized playback from the Lumiverse or start do blending of projectors.
